I was there Dick. It was a show within a show, the first American Koi Breeders of America Show was at SKE, a first annual show, and it was also the first ever American Goldfish Association show, also within SKE.
So, the Southern Women Koi Wrasslers put on a great new show (actually Ikona or Koishack or both), AKBA introduce themselves with their new organizational and promotional effort, and the goldfish hobby, regrouped, throws a Duesy as well. (Gunn brought some very nice square headed ranchu, BTW, Steve and Tony and all you goldfish nuts).
And Art Lembke and Peter Ponzio judge all three shows! One right after the other. With a LOT of help on the koi show and breeder show tasks from Joe White, Bryan Bateman, Nicole Lembke, (Yes. Belly dancing) and Steve Childers, the new GyroHipKing. Non stop judging except when they had their little belly dancing break. Multi talents with multi tasking abilities.
Blackwater Creek brought one of each and everything. Nissei (Mat, Ross and Tara) and Lotus Land (Brady) acted quite gentlemanly, brought their high class pieces, and pretty much cleaned up. Sanke Bob from Bonsai brought a boatload of fish and took a couple awards. Tarheel got a couple even though he was caught sniffin one of the belly dancers and talkin sweet. Kloubec helped organize, brought the awards, brought in the koi bus of our dreams full of good fish and groovy folks and made Iowa proud.
Regretfully we didn't get to see Brett or Purdin or Razorback or Hammock. Or Bickal! There could have been some keen competition added from these folks.
