Oh it's a little guy. Only about 15". I'd have to look back through my records for the breeder as I can't recall off the top of my head but it is not Omosako.

That is a beautiful fish Jim. Nice color contrast. The mid body pattern is particularly interesting.

The marking just to right shoulder, is that and emerging dumi placement that shows future promise to help balance the rich and intense harlequin head?

I am also interested in how you perceive the sumi intensifying and if you feel that water pH and hardness have any impact on this relative to the progress of Hi you see in your kohaku that are beong held in the same pond/tank??

I've said it before & it's true... I'm a sucker for a pretty face. I usually do not care for black chins. I like to have white on the chin as a high visibility "start". This fish is an exception. That ying/yang face is outstanding. I hope only the Sumi on the body expands.

JNorth,
Hey, do you like Shiro Utsuri or something?

This one is really nice... WOW... what great deep sumi and nice balance. As Mike M said, it has a great face/head. I like it a lot. I also like the black eye highlighting the white side of the face. Very sharp. Do you know if it is a male or female yet?

I hope you do not mind me posting a photo of my fish on your thread. Besides my two Omosako shiro utsuri, I have one other shiro utsuri that I purchased several months ago. It was nisai, and about 16 inches in the bowl photo taken around January. It was bred by Kaneko, and selected by Gene Winstead when he went to Japan. The koi is now living the good life in Koi Village's #1 mud pond, shown in the second photo (bottom koi). I hope to see her in person in October. I also hope to finish my main pond by then so I can give all these koi a home.

- Wayne, hopes the mud pond water and lots of natural food builds this shiro to be all that it can be.

The marking on the right shoulder is emerging sumi and does appear to be coming up and not going down. Sumi seems to do well in my pond while hi generally suffers. I have two different ponds though and try to keep my better koi in the pond with a lower ph. And when I say lower ph I mean low 8's as opposed to high 8's. I have a whole series of pics of one of my shiros showing the sumi coming, going and coming back again but I posted it many times so here is shot of one of my showas which shows the sumi coming up over one season.

Yes Wayne you could say I have a thing for shiros! Great looking shiro you have. Looking forward to seeing pics when she comes out of the pond in October.
