I'm curious. He told you it was "tategoi"?

mr Tran, since you are new on this forum, i'm not sure what should i tell you, most of member on this forum are very picky ( they mostly are profesionals, make a living by looking at koi ) on choosing koi, particular showa. so if i tell you something that you don't like to hear, please do not get upset. Put your hand on one half of the koi picture, cover the head and the shoulder: what you see is a decent showa with 3 color distribution, even with messy black on left and right. now move your hand to cover the other half, what you see is a pocket white and just 2 color blk and red on the head and mouth. Koi look good because of the contrast between colors, red against white, black against white, black and red do not have a lot of contrast therefore avoid the black on the red as much as posible. Now take all you hand off, the koi look unbalance from tail to head. So as i said, and if you don't mind, you have a below average showa, hard to say it's tategoi. However, showa are very hard to find, a decent showa still look as good as a good kohaku. not even mention $. please accept my apology if anything i said offends you. i attach to you a decent showa so you can see and analyze what i just tell you.

K.Tran

Thinking you were Ken Tran was the furthest thing from my mind. Ken is a very reputable dealer and wouldn't think of coming on here and posting that fish and using the word "tategoi" in the same sentence. Ken is much smarter than that!

Personally, I like your showa very much. I was just wondering who represented it to you as a "tategoi" when it clearly is NOT!! Good luck with your endeavors of growing it out. I hope it becomes all you would like it to be? BTW, how long have you been in the hobby and where are you from?

Nice Showa, as far as I am concern study it. It's always good to read a book or get a few pointers here and there but it can NEVER beat growing the fish out and seeing what it looks like in 2 or 3 years. Showa is an ongoing project, so study it and take pics....
