Per AP, Farmed Fish Given Melamine Tainted Meal

I've been following the story of the tainted pet food pretty closely (ok, almost obsessively) since it broke about six weeks ago. Since I have six dogs and two cats, I worry a lot. This news came out today from the FDA, per the AP:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18556690/

Now we need to worry about our koi food? I don't know - farmed fish generally refers to food fish - tilapia, catfish, trout, etc. But some of the same manufacturers who make koi food make pellets for other fish. So I'm asking our resident experts: Is this something we need to worry about?

I don't know as I use koi food that is imported from Japan. I suppose its possible the Japanese also get the wheat glutin from China??

Evidently, the melamine is in wheat AND corn gluten, as well as rice protein. I wasn't concerned about the koi feed until today when this news broke. I imagine that the Japanese import glutens from China as well, it seems to be the source for the world - they've also had problems with pet food in South Africa and Canada.

Maybe it would be helpful if we knew which manufacturers of koi food actually use "wheat gluten" in their formulas. I for one certainly won't use any food that has "corn anything" in it.

I don't buy koi food with corn anything in it, either. But wheat gluten can and, as we've discovered during the pet food mess often is, called a couple of different things on labels. And rice protein or rice powder has been added to some pet foods by mass manufacturers without the pet food company's knowledge.
