Just out of curiosity, why can't it be good for fish?

from my past experiences with my fish tanks/ponds/etc. ive noticed that "healthy" mature water is usually not crystal clear. it usually has some tinge of color to it because of stuff in the water. even with UV lights ive never seen fish water that clean. furthermore, carp dont naturally live in clear running springs so i expected them to be more suited to muddy-ish environments...

am i wrong???

I think you need to understand why the water is clear to have an answer.

For the benefit of lurkers, the idea that "clear is bad" does not mean that yellow or brown stained water is good! It is loaded with tannins and other waste products of decomposition... very bad. The arguable issue is whether it is better for the fish for the water to have a bare tinge of greenish color or for it to be crystal clear.... "gin clear". That said, I'll leave it to those who care to debate the issue.
