It is a little hard to tell from this picture because it seems that there is light reflecting of of its head. It looks clean and bright, nice Hikari and the Matsuba scales seem very distinct and even. Not the greatest pattern, but nice.

Nice shine on the head. Intensity of the Hi seems good. Body looks good. I don't care for the staining in the pectorals, which have a problem in shape. Altogether, a bright impression. Nice fish.

Russell points to the even appearance of the matsuba scales. This brings up a question I raised in another thread, but got no replies... How do the matsuba scales develop in the best Kujaku? When do the asagi scales show themselves? Is it good for the scales to be dark in small fish? Or, is it better for them to develop more slowly? The Kujaku posted by Moneypit is showing blue scales as if there is Sumi still consolidating. Is this good? Bad? Any predictions on how these blue scales will develop?

Hi,

very nice Kujaku. Bodyshape is great and distance of the eyes and the Ozuzu indicate a good size potential. Sheen is difficult to judge on the photo but seems good when looking at the head. Very clean head! The pattern is also OK but is not a big criteria for Kujaku anyway.

Regarding Kujaku-Han (Matsuba scales) the development depends on the bloodline. Some bloodlines have bright scales which get darker during finishing. Others look quite ugly having black scales all over but they would lighten during finishing. The best is to ask the breeder/dealer about the bloodline before choosing....
