4 Kohaku tosai . . .

These are the four kohaku tosai we ended up with for the ZNA SoCal show in Gardena, CA last March. You might remember the story (if not, please see : Show Pix, 2007 ZNA SoCal . . ., post #5).

Anyway, after the show they did a month heat cycling in our QT then were added to the pond two weeks ago -- and I'm only just now getting around to posting their pix.

No champions here, but still fun to look at. Don

1. Group shot

2. Sakuma, 8 1/2"

3. Ogawa, 7 1/2"

4. Ogawa, 8 1/2"

5. Sakuma, 7 1/2"

6. Comparison group shots: March over April (5 weeks)

Don, nice lineup of fish. Having JNorth's Ogawa Kohak spend a couple of months in my pond I did notice that it does grow slow. Maintain and growing the Ogawa Kohaks slow is the key. The quality is there for the future it's just knowing what the breeder and bloodline is capiable of. Ogawa isnt know for size but more on the quality side of the equation. I am sure you can Nakayama when he his down in SoCal next weekend. With Sakuma I hadn't had much experience with their tosai in my pond to study. They might not be Champions now but maintaining quality will be the key for many years of enjoyment.

definately a softer type of beni. Attractive patterns.. I have one Ogawa Kohaku now some 12 years old. Which is the extent of my experience with that breeder, so I don't know too much. I would echo Antonios thoughts.. will be interesting to see how they develop...

I like this breeder's kohaku's for the white they develop. I think that's a pretty nice bunch of fish....in the group shot I favor the koi at 12....great body shape and interesting pattern

I like number 5 for the body and pattern. the beni looks like it's good quality and it has nice and clean shiro. nice big even tancho mark on the head, the pattern on the body looks plain but it will look more intersting when bigger. it also has a good tail stop.
