sakai sanke

Hey guys I picked up a new sanke bred by sakai hiroshima. tell me what you think. I'll try to get a better pick of it later but this is what I have now. it's about 7-8" in length and I got it for a really good price from a place in toronto.

sorry for the poor photos I will take better ones once a get a proper blue viewing bowl

thanks

Nice looking fish how old is it ? Randol owner of CKP has built some great koi ponds . For photographing fish you can use a 45gal blue drum cut in half they then swim down the centre instead of around the sides

I just came from nancy's post on the status of koi shows and the hobby....

As I read this post and noticed only a couple of posts on it it dawned on me that the originator is someone highly interested in the hobby. Where is the encouragement. You can feel the pride and enthusiasm for the new selection
At Anyrate it was interesting to see this in light of what I had just read.....

The sanke reminds me of my first koi that ever got me reserve GC, the highest placement I ever achieved, It was a simple 2 step bred by toshio sakai. It will be a fun fish to learn on. and i think from the koi in the group shot you picked a very nice one from those available.

I'd like to see the progress at the end of summer and also learn how you will keep in protected over winter. sanke's are right behind showa in taking time to see what develops, so expect to spend some time enjoying this koi as it stretches and changes...thanks for sharing

yes i am very fascinated with koi and this is my most expensive koi purchase, although it doesn't even compare to the price and quality some other people pay for I am really excited to have it.

the pattern is simple but it's nice and clean looking. the sumi and shiro looks really great in person and there is some underlying tsubo sumi which doesn't show up well in my poor quality pictures.

living in toronto makes it hard to grow large koi especially during the winter. Its going to be brought in doors once the weather gets too cold.

perhaps you can post a picture of your reserve GC I would love to see it. I have seen some of your fish: your asagi and kohaku ( which i think you used to use in your avatar) look amazing!

thanks again for the comments!

reptar15 . . .

I'd like to second Dick's sentiments.

Judging koi from pix if difficult enough from good pix and impossible from poor ones, so I'll wait for you to post the next set before I say anything about your new koi, OK?

Looks pretty cool from the pics but I'm with Don. Lets see some pics of it in a blue bowl by itself .

nice fish, good pick, but it will be nicer if the black do not stay in the red and the black is kind of round, by that way, the contrast will be intensified more between two color. Attached is same fish with different black look for you to make your own judment. thank for posting.

thanks I know what you mean. I didn't pay "that" much for this koi so there are some areas which could be better but there is some underlying tsubo sumi. we will see what happens with the sumi over the hi.

Main thing is that you like the fish and observe it develop . It is not critical for where the sumi is as long as it is pleasing to the eye .Far more important is the body shape especially with the small lower priced fish . As far as shows in the Toronto area we have not had one and not likely to . I think that you picked the best what was there so just enjoy it
