Koi Magazines collectible?

I was surfing Ebay and found some really nice Nichirin Magazines that are hard to find....

eBay: 2 NICHIRIN JAPANESE KOI MAGAZINES - RARE (item 160120279013 end time May-30-07 10:35:11 PDT)

One magazine is of the Kato Showa from 1991. Also, how collectible are these magazines now?

I am interested in all the older Nichirins, but shipping costs from Europe are ridiculous. As to collectibility, everything is "collectible". I do not notice much appreciation in value of koi magazines. Perhaps there is on an inflation-adjusted basis for the really old issues before counting the shipping/postage costs. For value appreciation, I think Beanie Babies would be a better deal. You can find them for less than the original retail, nicely preserved in special bags with tag protectors included! Kids love them... as toys.

I remember when everyone was on the "Beenie Baby" craze. You look on EBay and it was packed with people trying to make a buck of something so massed produced....I think magazines will be in the same area as in koi pins as value in future, maybe because the demand will over see what can be "googled"..

I enjoy the old koi magazines and am always on the lookout for them. I also like koi books. I have a whole shelf full of them. I should probably read them one of these days .

Jim: Look through those books and you'll get scared. Really. Many titles are so outdated they are useful only for historical reference... serious discussion of gravel filters, etc. After reading Koi Kichi, and absorbing the main message, the health titles are about all a person needs for reference purposes. Of course, I like the pictures in every book. .

Actually I have read most of them and they are great for historical reference and to see the way the koi hobby has changed. But no you shouldn't really use them as a reference to build a pond anymore . Koi Kichi is definately my favorite of the bunch.

Tony

I remember when folks thought National Geographic mags were going to be worth something!? Whatever happened to that will probably happen to koi mags. Good reference/historical material but not enough supply/demand for the value to really increase!?
