Great pond, Don. Nice design, clear water and the few koi I can see look great too. Just a small point of curiosity - your water level is above ground and is perhaps only about 3-4" from the top of the pond walls. How do you sleep at night worrying whether one of your herd jumped out of your pond or not? I have a paranoia about this, so my pond walls are two and a half feet above my water level. I'm probably a bit extreme

There are 4 separate filter runs. One skimmer feeds a Bakki Shower. A second skimmer feeds a bead filter. The two bottom drains lead to a vortex settlement chamber and then to two Nexus equipped with EAzy units. The pond volume turns over in about 45 minutes. Water changes are a minimum of 30-35% per week. A shade structure over the pond reduces the leaf litter, etc. falling in.
Very nice Mike, I really love the lush vegitation around it. Looks so peacefull.

Mostly just lawn someday. Maybe another catus garden.

That roof shot really shows off your pond Don. Nice shape, I really like it.

ppp . . .

Our pond builder said if we didn't give the koi a reason to leave the pond, they wouldn't. That seemed to make sense at the time and we've not had one take the exit ramp -- yet.

Ryan,
I come up with 53.312 tons.......standard or 48 metric (÷ by .90718)
12800 x 8.33 ÷ 2000 = 53.312

I think..........

Birdman: Cactus?!? ... how many inches of rain in an average year? What is your USDA zone?....I'm feeling challenged to come up with an idea or two for you. If nothing else, I'm thinking there must be some ornamental grasses that grow in your area? There are some fantastic grasses that can survive drought once established, as long as there is a decent growing season most years.

I'm not sure what our annual rain fall is but we live on what is referred to as the Central Oregon High Desert Plateau. Very dry, arid, low humidity, nothing but sage brush and junipers. We like catus and the deer won't touch them. Not very Japanese though.

The times when I see koi jumping are when the koi return en masse to my pond from the koi centre after pond renovations. Kois adjusting to a new pond seem to behave this way for about a day or two, and I'm told it's normal. Also, I notice occasional jumping after the pond is PPed.
