Matsunosuke (Toshio Sakai) Kohaku. I read that the owner was skeptical about it's growth potential - until it went into Dan and Gene's pond that created other Grand Champions. So, nurture is as important as nature.

Arley Hulstrand has been in the hobby for only three years! My in-house Koi Health Advisor, Sandi, treated this Omosako Shiro for a minor blemish only last year. The koi is a lot better looking now. Is this Genki Koi's highest award in Dallas? I forgot to mention that the Grand Champion was from Infiltration, and the Grand Champion B was from Nishikigoi of Niigata.

It belongs to Martha, too. The breeder is Maruyama. One of the better photos we have.

Ralph & Diane Bates' miniature Orca is guaranteed to win something. He takes it everywhere. This koi is from Brett Rowley (yup, a Texas native).

Tom Ayers only had this baby for two months (from the San Antonio annual fish sale?).

Carsten's big and beautiful Showa. It's amazing how Carsten achieves so much without vast resources.

This is the Midori's third year of retirement from shows! It won the same award last year. This koi also won the People's Choice Award, where the public described it as "the yellow fish". Rename it "Old Yeller"? Maybe too much lemon will turn your koi into one?
