Question on illness

From what I understand Ich is white dots or patches. I really wish I had a photo but might post one later. I dont think its ich, but what it looks like is a white to translucent film or coat. Fish seems happy and active. The layer of ??? is so thin it just looks like his color should be brighter. it has no clumps, spots, or flakes.... just looks like he should be brighter. A local dealer said they do get like winter or fur coats when weather changes rapidly. The weather has changed a bit but not drastically.

I would like to know what the experts say.... So here you go guys.

For what you decribe, a thin layer large white translucent all over the fish body, then it is Epistylis, a white mold looking parasite, it thrives on spring when temp start to rise up, untreated, it can slowly eat up around the scale and then all other bacteria will get in. Weak fish, on spring when their immune system start to recover are the first to have them. It not a common parasite but it easy to be eliminated . Salt .3% the whole pond and it will gone. Keep salt in couple week to make sure. Thanks for asking.

new2 . . .

This koi board doesn't have a Sick Fish/Pond forum, but KoiVet does.

KoiVet Message Boards - powered by vBulletin

And they have folks who are both qualified and experienced at diagnosing over the internet -- which can be tricky. You don't want to go with just any old opinion when the future of your koi is on the line, do you?

You'll need to register, upload a photo of the fish and answer the main questions in the sticky at the top of the SF/P Forum.

Best wishes,
