Thumbs up High Water Table in the Pond Hole

[quote=lilkoi;83254]my area in which i live does not permit me to put in bottom drains..why? because every shovel of dirt you take out after 3 1/2 feet it quickly fills with water. and should i want to drain my pond from time to time i couldn't because the liner lifts from under, water fills in hole that liner sits in...when full it keep liner tight to the walls of the hole i dug.

We know what happen when the Water Table is high, when started to dig ours, we had torrential rains for 4 days, water went about 2 and 1/2 feet, so we waited till it drained, we went to the Carpet stores and they gives all we could use from the Pickup Dumpsters, that was put on bottom, can't remember how many layers, then Hubby made a Frame out of heavy plywood, painted, and after that he put the liner, no bottom drain neither, water goes first to the biggest filter and then to the others, can tell you the sequences, but we have 5, 55 Gallons homemade filters plus 3 Oase 1800's, every thing is above ground as we are a bit OLD...68 and 70 and anything goes wrong it will too much for hubby to tackle with, still a lot of work to do such landscaping, but the fish are healthy and growing like a weed, the pond now is 3.11 inches, as we raised the edge and was about 2' overlap.
If not to you this maybe will help others with the same problems, we have some pictures of pond progress and details of frame etc, will find then and post on new thread in a couple of days, first I will need to scan then and see if I can post then.

a couple concerns:

1. assume the rocks around the pond will be submerge in water. would this create problem for the fish in term of getting injuries from cut/bruises

2. the two 110 gals tubs, is the pipe large enough to move the water from first tub to second tube else it will overflow. I think the interconnecting tub need to be double the size of pipe you use for inlet from your pump.

recommendation, I would add a bottom drain and settling tank.

Smile good news!!!

I just wanna thank you all for your input!!! You all have helped a lot!!! As of right now...my pond is running!!! The two 110 gallon settling tanks are working perfect to a T!!! There was some stuff on the bottom I wasn't able to get cause when I drained the pond the liner lifted and folded up around the dirt....but when I filled it back up and put in my pump in and turned it on....low and behold it worked!!! I used a pool broom and pushed all the crap left on the bottom of the pond towards the pump...it all went up the two inch pipe to the tee that goes either way...stops in the sand filters and what ever makes it past the sand filters quickly settles in the first settling chamber...passes through a three inch to the next settling chamber....but theres nothing in there because its all settling in the first one.....then it comes out into a three inch pipe and back to my pond....my water is churning in a constant circular movement (I'm sure the koi will love to swim upstream) two air pumps on either side helping to keep all the smaller pieces of what ever moving to get sucked up!!!! I'm so excited!!! Baki is up and running did a giant tower 7 trays high a lil green right now but hopefully will be brown soon!! Then I get to put my wet kids back!!! Tomorrow I'm going to try and fix the landscape around it(cause I made a mess when I tore it up to fix it). Then I can post up some pics under the show us your pond!!! I just hope all you beganers out there...do some research.....the systems you buy made for you might or might not work, but keep in mind that you can build yourself the same thing just by taking those designs and tweaking them a bit...save yourself some money so you can afford to buy some beautiful koi!!! There are a lot of dyi projects out there on the web for you to copy!!! though I haven't found one for an aerator...but they are not that much $$...so just buy one!!! lol Again thanks a bunch to all who have helped and shared there dyi projects!!! -jo
