Please comment my sanke (just harvested from mud pond)

Dear all,

I just harvested my mud pond, to get this only Sanke. I put her January 2007 and she was 32cm, yesterday i measured her, she was 53cm. Now, i really need your helps to comment on these 2 questions.

1. Does her growth rate considered bad, good, or great ? For info when she was inside e mud pund, she was a tosai (less than a year, i think around 8-10 months yr old).
2. How is she ? Body conformation, sumi, hi, kiwa, sashi and all ? Note : She is a little bit orange, i never give her any food enhancing food only started giving her 1 week a go (Saki Spirulina) when she was in the mud pond.

Really appreciate your helps,

Dimas`

a very pretty sanke....the white is nice and when the growth slows for the beni to catch up, I think it will really show off what you've accomplished.

If she was 8-10 months old and 32cm when she went in the mud, how do you know she was a she and not a he?

I would consider the growth good to very good. Don't worry about the color of the beni. She's young and she just came out of the mud. The color will thicken in time. The evenness of the beni is good and that's more important than the color. The shiroji is very good. The conformation aslo shows good potential. I think she has great potential overall. Breeder?

Why did you take her out of the mud so early? I would think that there should be a couple more
good growth months ahead.

Hi all,

Thanx for your comments.

l113892 : Hmmm...actually, i determine he from her side head (what is it called ?) If you touch it and you feel a 'grainy' skin, it will be probably a male, but if it is not, it will be female...this is not a very accurate way, but works 80% for me.

dcny : To tell you the truth, i'm preparing her for a show in one month time. Even then, i am not sure wether she'll be ready for it as there are still some unfinished sumi. Yet, i think she deserved a clean water treatment for a while. Anyway, how long does Japanese breeder put their koi inside their mud pond ? If i'm not mistaken it is about 6 months right ?

For breeder, this is locally breed (F1 from Japanese Oyagoi). I am betting with the my dealer who sold off this sanke to me, i bet this sanke will reach 80cm. If there any possibility for it to go beyond 80cm ? Coz, so far here in Indonesia, it is very hard to find a good gosanke locally breed koi who reach 80cm+.

Thanks all,

Dimas

For show purposes, you may have a problem with those pectorial fins,

I noticed that too. They look a bit "clipped" and pointy don't they. Otherwise, a pretty decent looking fish.

If you put the sanke into a mud pond at 8 -10 months old then it would be too young to have the male characteristic of the "grainy skin" on the gill plates.

Hi, may i know what does a pointed pectoral fin has any effect on judging criterion ? As, the 'clipped' fin, i believe she has a minor damage during the harvesting and transporting.

Do you think this fish has any potential to grow bigger ?

dimashp . . .

When the leading ray of the pectoral fin has been cut/trimmed it's a minor demerit.

When the tip of the pectoral fin is pointed, rather than rounded (it's called a 'streamer') it's a minor demerit -- but it can be fixed through minor cosmetic surgery.

Using surgical scissors trim it to the proper curve, then cauterize it immediately with 7% iodine. In good water, the surgery will be unnoticeable within 1 week.
