Please evaluate..New Isa showa and Oya sanke

My new babies arrived and it's like christmas morning
The Isa showa is a 17 inch female. The motogoro is perfect..right at the base of the fins. It is not visible in this photo.
The oya sanke is a 10 inch male.
Opinions are welcome....let me know what you think!!!

Both look pretty good. The evenness of the beni is suspect on the showa but that can be a photo thing. The sanke may be very good depending on how the sumi develops.

There no good single spot(s) sumi on shiroji on both fish, that is why they were culled. I like the Isa showa more than the other, at least she has well developed kagane sumi anyway. stevec

Koi breeders do not cull for that reason. Folks focused on show fish "may" select or not select a fish for that reason but breeders look for quality. You can have quality on a fish that may not have that particular characteristic.

sanke looks nice. i can see some grey in the shiroji where future sumi will come up (hopefully). sumi on shiroji in a sanke is extra nice. i wouldn't throw the showa out of my pond either w/ that nice conformation and the pattern is real easy on the eyes. both keepers.

To be honest...A pretty ridiculous statement. The showa has sumi on shiroji..most prominent on the right side(hard to see in the picture.). They both have underlying sumi on the shiroji...just a question of when it will finish. Sumi usually develops well in my pond...so I'm not too worried. But...To treat this like a fault is very wrong. After your statement, I went back through my old issues of Nichirin and koi-bito magazines. I figured that maybe I didn't notice something important. Well, after looking at many showa champions from all over japan...I have found a great deal of them also had most of their sumi on the hi...and not on the shiroji!!! It's one of those rules that is to be taken with a grain of salt. I remember years ago...no Hi on the fins..and no hi extending over the eyes. Then...the All Japan grand champion sanke with hi over one eye and on a pec fin. I liked the overall quality and conformation of the showa. I loved the depth of the beni on the sanke...I will gamble on the sumi.

Looks to me like both have plenty of potential.
The showa is far from finished, and while the sumi in the hi plates is up well, it is still mostly submerged on the shiroji. I would guess that as the submerged sumi matures and comes up to the surface it will consolidate better in the beni giving it a tighter, more finished look.
As to the Sanke, the immature sumi looks to be very well placed. Since your water is Sumi friendly I'd say you have a lot to look forward to. The best part about the Sanke is the fact that it is male and not prematurely finished. It could be a real looker in a year or two.
BTW, good bodies on both.
