GC Ryukin is about 9 inches. There was a red cap oranda which is about 11-12 inches.

"The Hawaii Goldfish and Carp Association (HGCA) was founded in 1959. This makes it the first Goldfish and Koi club in the United States and possibly the oldest such organization in the world." Joel b

Impressively old Joel but not the oldest in the world?

Yurin group of Hiroshima first show 1955 (founded pre 1955)
Nagaoka Japan chapter first koi show 1953 ( founded pre 1953)

And the all time champ--------------

Kure of Hiroshima first show 1951!! Founded a year earlier.

But no goldfish?!

We would like to correspond with these other clubs James. How would we get in touch with them?

Better Photos

Thanks to Aaron N for providing better quality photos of some of the winners

Can anyone guess the breeding on the Sanke?

Congrats to Suda!! We never hear a great deal about Suda here, but I'm happy to see the win. I am definitely a fan!! My ginrin kohaku was bred from Suda bloodline parents. Happy to see a relative win..lol!!

for Tony

Grand Champion ryukin

This big guy stayed front-and-center in it's tank for two days and never cowered -like it was looking for an oranda to pick on

Top-view division winner, Ken and Shirleeen's choclate butterfly. Not a good pose for the photo, but a nice fish.

The best top-view ranchu was entered in the fancy goldfish (side view) division! Like most TVR, it doesn't look like much from the side and no one thought to take a photo from the top. Another top-view ranchu, which was expected to be impossible to beat, died at home several hours before it was to be packed and taken to the show. Weird! The TVR below also won my friendship award for the best goldfish born and raised in Hawaii. Owner - Marion Lee. Breeder - Adachi.

There are some nice top-view oranda, but this one should have been entered in the fancy goldfish division.

Everyone thought this shubunkin and comet were going to spawn before the show was over, but they held off. Both about 9-10 inches.

Choclate with pom poms and black moor.

The ryukin category was hotly contested. I think this one was either 4th or 5th place.

This oranda is about a foot long.

More orandas. The red and black one was my personal favorite but the photo didn't catch its true color or best pose. All about 4.5 to 5 inches.
