Ohana Koi & Goldfish Show

The Hawaii Goldfish and Carp Association (HGCA) was founded in 1959. This makes it the first Goldfish and Koi club in the United States and possibly the oldest such organization in the world.

This past weekend the club held it's first Koi & Goldfish Show in over twenty years. Turnout was huge with hundreds upon hundreds of attendees and over one hundred Koi entered.

Under the leadership of club President Guy Kmett and Showchair Shirleen Horimoto and the generous sponsorship of Nikkei Koi, the club membership pitched together to put on a fantastic Show that was full of the Aloha spirit.

Pictured here is Karl Sinclair's Grand Champion Ginrin Kohaku.

Congratulations to all who made this Show an event to be remembered!

Congrats on the show! ... I don't like Gin Rin Kohaku very much, but that one could be the exception!

Thank you Joel Burkard of Pan Intercorp for being one of our honored judges. Our show was planned only 4 months before the show date so Joel was so kind to help along with Daisuke Maeda of Momotaro Koi Farm and Gary DeCoito of Hawaii Koi Farm. They did such a terrific job for our first show. Our show began at 8:00 am and by 10:00 over a thousand persons attended. The line of cars into the country club was so long people turned away.

Baby Grand Champion

Sorry for the poor photo quality but I guess a bad photo is better than no photo?

Tony,

I did not have time to take a single goldfish photo, but Shirleen promises they are coming. Wait until you see Shane Yamamoto's GC ryukin. Spectacular! This fish could have won at Aquarama, Bristol, or any place in between.
