Very nice kohaku pattern. Good Shiro. I see some sumi on the gill plates? Did you check for sumi inside the mouth? You might still have a beautiful showa on your hands Any which way, it will be either a modern sanke with scattered sumi or a nice showa. Can't go wrong with this one.

If we talk about Sumi....It is difficult,, really difficult to predict future, especially Sanke' sumi.

Looks male to me. The red is too red for the size. Photos, however, can be deceiving.

I also think prolly male by the shape and beni. I like the marusome kiwa. The area to the right of the dorsal is a potential concern, but have also seen alot of those open there in a good edge. But a gamble. Alot of sumi possible is a potential drawback, but not enough not to take a chance. Other than that, has a decent chance.

This is a Koi I was thinking about , I don't own it .

The Beni was my concern . I agree with Mike M. , the Red seems way to finished for that size koi . There seems to be a crack in the Beni on the right side of the koi (Near Dorsal). I also had concern about the scallop edge of the Beni . I am drawn to that "Hard Beni" look and have found out that it falls apart with time . I do like the Kohaku pattern , but I believe I will be passing on this one .

To my novice eye, the beni is a contradiction and therefore a risk. It is "hard" beni, with deep sashi which seems to contradict what I see as weak kiwa and breaks in the beni. Is the beni going to fall apart before it even has a chance to finish? The sumi seams scattered, but sumi still baffles me.

The shiro does not stand out and the body is weak and probably male. I am drawn to the pattern but when I break it down to body and indicators of quality, I think the fish is a pass.
