Very good!! I like you're wine/koi logic.

MikeM

Not sure if we're on the same page - who was the breeder you're referring to and when did he start breeding here in the US?

There's a restaurant chain that serves a US Angus Kobi Beef burger on their menu. The mere addition of the word Kobi doesn't make it imported, just refers to the process used in Japan for production of this style of beef!?

JR

No, you're not thick, but me thinks you're baiting us to hang around for your real opinion on this subject!? LOL

Personally, I agree, if it's born here it's domestic. If it was born or produced or created somewhere else, it's imported!

No...nononononono, Tonio.... The real Question (at least as far as this thread is concerned) is, "Do Japanese koi cease to be Japanese and become American koi once they take up residence here, and are their progeny, as bred by the Japanese immigrant that bred and brought them here that is now a naturalized citizen of the US, now considered American koi, Japanese koi, or both? And, what makes the distinction?"

It's the distinction I'm really looking for. What really makes a Japanese koi a Japanese koi and an American koi an American koi? Is it really as simple as location?

Marie

There is talk of an amnesty program for Japanese koi so they can all become naturalized.

And lest we forget--- IN Japan, all koi are just domestics! So domestic is not a pejorative. It is a descriptive. Japanese koi are, of course, imported koi and they are imported from the home land of koi. They are considered the best in the world. ALL GCs from ALL major koi shows IN THE WORLD come from Japanese breeders. I have a dollar in my wallet that says so----- JR
