Yup, it's me. I was a senior that year and my Dad let me cut school to be an extra in the movie at Fremont Dragstrip for $5.00 a day. Our whole crew and car were invited to film the movie. As luck would have it, they put me right next to Robert Culp in the stands to film that scene. I am wearing my bright yellow Vic Hubbard Speed and Marine jacket, that also has a NHRA patch on the front. Did you catch the Ray Ban Aviators????
If you look real closely in some of the scenes, you can see my Dad's Pontiac Astre the "Tin Indian". It's black with a yellow stripe. It's the Pontiac version of the Vega, and in one scene in particular, we ran against the Willy's. I campaigned that car a few years later in Super Gas and in Brackets. My best time and mph was : 9.40 @ about 150mph. What a rush. However, the car was capable of 8.90's. But that was a long time ago. I now like cruising in my '63 Pontaic Le Mans, and being Koi Kichi.
On Thursday night, Jim, Bill from Mystic, Jasper, Jeff, Sheila, Lucia and I all went to dinner at Sluggos at the AKCA Seminar. With Bill, Jim and I being motorheads were talking about our cars and Jeff mentioned that I was in a movie called Hot Rod - Rebel of the Road. Jim about fell off his chair. Turns out that is his favorite car movie ever!! Said he watched it about 100 times, and started reciting his favorite lines. Jim said " I thought I knew you from somewhere!!" We laughed so hard and talked about the movie the rest of the evening.
Steve, congrats!
