I get so many of those fly larva in my piping that it starts to restrict the flow. I have to run my pipe cleaner though them. My larva are green.

I tried to purchase some mosquito dunks but was told that they were banned in Canada . So some tests must have been made to deem them unfit for use I certainly would not use them near a koi pond for that reason .

Eugene

Eugene . . .

Mosquito dunks (bacillus thuringus), a naturally occurring biological control substance, are safe for fish and humans -- so that is not the reason Canada might have banned them.

Why would we change the subject? The thread has had 1800 hits in just a few days? Is there something MORE interesting? JR

Well, I'm still waiting for an explanation of how the lifeforms intended to be promoted by the Bio-Chip will not inhabit K-1.

Mike,

Well, I don't have an answer... My theory is that they may in fact find a small niche here and there on the K1. The micro photographs of K1 that I've seen, however, show no signs of them, as there simply in not enough protected surface for them (chaotic environment). The Chips, on the other hand, have a large amount of protected surface area, and so appear to rapidly and densly colonise the media. Those I can definately see under my microscope (I'm facinated by them), and look very much like the photos on the EA website.

Kind Regards,
Bill

As far as "Them" , Do I need "Them" ? Is the K1 made from a different material then the K-Chip ? Bill , I see those small holes "Quiet Zones" in the Chip and the holes in the K1 are much larger , but I just can't believe it can make that big of a difference ? I'm trying to talk myself into the product , I really am , but I just don't see it ?

I was just over on Koi shack talking to Greg about the surface space of K-1. Very impressive. Now picture all that surface ( Bill, how many square feet of surface in a single N- unit on average?) and what it is doing/accomplishing and then imagine what some stray higher forms might be doing amongst all that bacteria. White noise I tell ya, white noise. JR

Well, I don't think you "need" them. The question really is will they provide an improvement, and if so is the cost of this improvement justifyable. I think the ever wise and humble Mr. Jordan best summarized as follows;

"My loose laymans interputation of the biochip information is that the tiny critters that live there can help break down larger pieces of organic matter faster because of their size than can bacteria which would eventually get the job done but take longer. Isn't faster better than slower?"

It sounds like the best answer to this question was?

a: Yes
b: No
c: Maybe
d: I don't know
e: Who Knows
f: Who cares
g: Depends on who's ox is being gored
h: X -(Y + C2)/tiny little spaces for the bugs to hide
