Hahaha! Of course, I should have realized that as I don't think the mother is that old?!
But thanks for taking my post in the spirit it was intended. There is no perfect koi. But there is something in every koi that can be admired.

Still, I'd keep an eye on that retreating kiwa. It seemed like a 'normal' decline for a 14year old koi- but not a 4 year old koi of this quality and lineage. Maybe too fast a growth rate? too much sun? Or being kept indoors? Or just the nature of that pattern as it ages? It will be interesting to see this fish in a year or two.

Too fast a growth probably. From past experience this type of beni will do well. BTW I have not been giving colour food for a few months now. That could have contributed.

Anyhow it'll be interesting to see how she develops. Expectations though often not met is a main part of the fun in this hobby. My bet is that the beni will continue to improve. I'll continue to give updates.

*filled with wide-eyed wonder*

OMG! What a beauty!

I know it's a simple pattern and one that is probably not so desired by most, but I just love it. I have a nisai girl in my pond very similar, and though built like a tank, the pattern adds grace to her movements. I hope you don't mind my sharing, but I just have to post a pic of Nepenthe for comparison.

Taken this morning, no flash. Last time I measured her (3 months ago), she was 21".

I wonder what is the cost roughtly to buy this koi at nisai from SFF .Please let me know. I am very interested in getting similar Nisai to grow in my pond. The koi has an extremely strong and nice body . The white is a little yellow probably from color food or stress? I must praise you with a great achievement to raise this koi to the size despite the pattern.

That is a nice simple pattern, Marie. The sashi esp at the tail end is a bit messy but I am sure it'll tightened up when she develops further in the years to come. Between a koi with great pattern and not-so-good conformation vs one with great conformation but simple pattern with similar skin quality, I'll take the latter without a blink of the eye.

Thanks for sharing!

Be prepared to pay 500,000 to 1,000,000 yen for a nissai of this quality at SFF...probably more nowadays with SFF popularity since.

The slightly yellow white is probably due to stress. My bad for "neglecting" and spending less time on my kois for the past year to concentrate on my other hobby (photography). Should be quite easy to improve on the white given her base quality.

Thanks aqkoi2.
