Sinking koi pellets

If the koi were at the bottom in the first place, it takes less energy to reach the food than swimming up to eat floating food!

Truth is that koi are born bottom feeders, which is why their mouths are located below.

For those that feed the sinking pellets, what do you do w/ the aeration and the bottom drain? Do you turn it off when you feed?

I imagine that it would be hard for the koi to chase these pellets w/ the aeration on & that the food will go to the bd.

A little off the subject, but my bottom drains (for practical purposes) are not in the middle of the pond, but are off to one side. While sinking pellets have a more secure place to fall, the bubbles send floating pellets down the side, giving all the fish a shot at the food and there is no ganging up at one place. Just a happy accident, but maybe something to be considered. If I had it to do all over again and there was not a pipe going through one side of my pond, I would still offset the drains.

I've not experienced any problem, Flounder. The bottom of the pond is saucered, but the slope is not too steep. I am aware of folks who have had food reach the drain before it was eaten. Maybe my gals are just hungrier than their koi.

Yes. And I do not turn them off during feeding.
