Don't worry too much about your fish hiding. I have several fish that hide under overhanging rocks, under a loose piece of liner, and even in the skimmer. They will come out eventually, just give them some time. Having more koi will help, because koi are social creatures, but don't go and overstock your pond too quickly, the results could be disasterous.
