Post Any idea on this koi?

I purchased this koi at 5' two months ago. I thought it was goshiki because I saw some black developing. Now at 8+ with some montoguru, I think it may be showa? Any opinion on the type of koi or the overall fish?

Showa. Not nearly enough hi for me. The one pec with motoguro looks nice so hopefully it will get motoguro on the other pec as well.

Still learning about koi, besides not looking like a classic showa. What are the other negatives?

You can always keep the fish and learn how it will turn out when its bigger. so next time you will have some insight on what fish like that will become.

Well, the first thing is you bought it because you liked it. Now learning more in depth about koi in the future, then looking back I think you would have past on this Showa even if it was $15. I think at $30 you could have gotten a tosai with more pattern. The quality is so-so as well as the conformation, but as tosai you look more for the pattern. JMHO.... But, for now study what you have and on to your next selection of Showa to try your luck on.

Here are some things to watch and learn from.

Your showa is very white at this age. usually the white looks somewhat like 2% milk. You can learn what this bright white means as this fish ages.

It appears that it may be female from the body shape. Yet the red is so bright red that one would wonder if it's male.

so what will this white and red mean as it ages?

Be sure and keep track of your PH while it grows.

I could tell you the answer to all these things to watch for but by not learning as your going you wouldn't get anything out of it. Lil dude is right, you can always learn something from any koi whether it's $15.00 or $1,500. Just like on a coin there are always two sides......genetics and water ( your skill )...
thanks for posting!
