OK Tony, got the question now

Quote:
A show with judging, but no awards...Just pretty much a display if you will
.

With competition comes many things other than the "$6 trophy." The competition in and of itslef can help reward (without promise of such) the hobbyist for many things including their ability to pick out a worthy koi and or their husbandry skills raising such. The competition or display can also help to refine the hobbyists eye when they have the oportunity to make the comparisons that can only be made "live" (verses through pictures). Then their is the sharing of knowledge and camaraderie that takes place during the show with others as well. All of these are the true benefits of the show/competition, that and the exposure to the public that comes with it....not the $6 trophy (or other "prize").

I've done it in the past and would do it again. The Orlando club had a Young Koi show but all of my Koi were way to big to compete. I still brought a few big girls just to display for the public to see. I got to spend a good part of the day talking with people that stopped by.

Yep. ...We had a booth at a plant & garden sale/festival at the local botanic garden last March. One of our members lives very close. We set up an 8' show tank for display of 3 of his gals. (One of which was previously Henry's.) For two days there was hardly a time that we did not have a crowd around the tank with lots of questions. We traded off, taking turns explaining about koi. It is a great way to spread the word, and fun, too. ....until about 2pm on Sunday when exhaustion starts to set in.
