A new koi show.....

Would you enter your koi fish at a show that was for display purposes only? No awards just to display...Everyone beetches about hobbyist entering their fish for all the wrong reasons...like win a trophy...So would you enter your koi at a show like this?

Nope. I think it is too much trauma for any fish to go through but thats just my opinion.

I think when people want to enter anything into a contest/show, they are doing it for the suspense that they won, and if they lose, the inspiration to try harder for next time.

Eric,
What Tony meant was if you wanna enter a koi into a show for no price at all. I would put a koi into a show w/o any guarantee or will not get anything but not the good ones of course. Eric will you bring out a $20K show fish that will not win anything. For educational purposes I would rather invite my koi kichi friends to my place put food on the table (pulutan with balut) and add a couple cases of beer. They can criticize my fish for all I care as long as I can learn the good and the bad points of a certain koi w/o having a bad feeling about their comment.

Oh yea, I totally agree with you there. I would much rather to have people over at my place, (or) anothers, or a koi club meeting where we all can get comfortable and talk about koi. It seems to me that a koi show would be a bit too formal for anyone really to get super comfortable with each other.
After all, we all seem to do our best learning when we are comfortable.
Thanks for clarifying the question for me mike, gspotmc.

Good man Mike, I like your attitude. Shows you think of others and take in the koi experience as a whole. Along with the beer and Balut too of course.

Hmmmm

I am not totally sure I understand the intent of the question. A show without awards? Does this mean without any competition, no judging at all? Or is it simply Competition without a trophy?

I have taken my koi to places to be simply displayed as I have opened my home for this purpose as well (show w/o competition). I of course would take my koi to a show with competition even if there were not awards. So I guess my answer is YES to the question, regardless of its actual intent.

A show with judging, but no awards...Just pretty much a display if you will.

In theory it's ok(for educational purposes)...but I would never actually do it. It's a lot of work getting koi ready for a show. Then, shipping them up and back..the stress and risks involved are many. I am competitive by nature..so, that alone is a motivation. Take away the competitive element..and it's all work with no rewards or excitement.

My pond club has had an expo 2 years running now. Lots of koi there and exposes the public to them where they might not have seen them before. I brought some 24" koi to the expo. There were plenty of people who had not seen a koi that big before, certainly not for sale.
