| Hi Jason
With the size of your male, it is very hard for it to compete against a female koi of the same size, Females generally have a better confirmation. But you never know, what it will be competing against. So there is always a chance..
Showing koi for the 1st time is such a wonderfull experience and one I am sure you will never forget. Let the club know before they bench your fish, that this is your first time, they may have a novice division. I remember our first time showing we went novice at San Diego koi show, and we won Novice GC and Mature Champ. After that we were hooked, we went back the following year and took home GC. I would say to any 1st time shower enjoy the experience and learn from it, watch and listen to the judges and introduce yourself to some of the ole timers, that is were the knowledge is and were the fun begins.
On a sidenote: Never show your hand before a show, others will know what they need to beat your fish
Have a great time, and please come back and tell us how your fish did at the show.
