Favorite koi food?

I live northern California. What is your favorite food for color? What is your favorite for growth? What is your favorite for skin/ shiroji?

don't shoot me.....why does a hobbyist think a food for color is needed? a well balanced food, plus algae on the pond walls, in water with stable ph and plus gh and kh around 100 ought to do enough. I can understand a breeder/dealer trying to crank up the color levels before a sale.

thank for the feed back that is partial what I was trying to ask. I'm using osi all season now and getting good growth I was just curious about beefing up what I was feeding them for the rest of the summer and the begining of the fall

crank up the protein levels and keep an eye on the ORP, ph, and kh. If you see water quality dip...back off the protein levels and/or the qualtity of food offered.

As Art (Koidoc) said on another board...you feed the filters, not the fish. Everything is OK as long as they (the filters) do not choke.

I tried some OSI Wheat Germ Pellets over the winter and it did the trick. I have switched over to their food exclusively. Right now feeding a mix of growth and staple diets. I like it because it does not cloud the water, the kois skin has never looked better and the food is affordable.

This is the first year I have used blackwater creek solid gold formula. I was using dainichi growth. I have to say...growing much faster with the new BWC gold formula. Colors look excellent. Only down side is oil on the water surface. I have a surface skimmer, so not too bad a problem. I definitely recommend it highly. Also want to add...not one ulcer all season. They add all the probiotics..may be part of the reason. I don't know enough about it to say for sure..but good results are good results.

I like many of our club members use Aqion. We get together and purchase pallets fresh from the mill.
