Quality Vs. Pattern...opinions on this koi?!?!

This is a 7 inch doitsu sanke. I am still debating the keep it or sell it dilemma. To see it in person..the quality is very good. The sumi is deep black, and the hi and shiro are vibrant. It doesn't have that annoying short first ray that many doitsu seem to have. It also doesn't have that odd, onion shaped body as well. The skin quality..well, it glows in person. Very nice quality. BUT...the pattern. obviously not balanced...the hi is simply top heavy. If the sumi fills in a little more near the tail, the overall look will be much better. It looks like a piece of abstract art to me. I like it a great deal...and don't like it at the same time. An enigma?!?! What is your opinion of it...and the topic of pattern vs quality as well?

You know the people that would say that this tosai has very good quality wouldnt even consider growing it out in their own pond...Deep down in everyone's heart they are looking for pattern and dont let anyone fool you if they say pattern doesnt play a part in selection.

Sorry, but no pattern at all, sell it... Quality still does not make this a good koi.

Read your quote above. Thought I'd save you some time so I edited it so you can use it for an ad on ebay.

Very funny...It was definitely not the purpose of this thread. I already have 2 doitsu sanke...just deciding if I want this one to be the third.
Just for the record...I have never tried to advertise a koi for sale on this website. I am just here to discuss and enjoy.

Quality matters in the end. In culling fish you begin with pattern, then quality, and last of all body shape. You start with the obvious and become more demanding as the fish develops. If a reasonable pattern doesn't exist, then the quality of the fish won't be an issue unless you want to breed it. It's no coincidence that in judging koi pattern is considered the least important factor. It's like trying to fill a flush in cards. You have to have all the elements together in one fish to have a winner.
