Koi Dashing and Flashing Help!!

Hi, notice for past few days koi been dashing and flashing about, i have a 2000G ponds with a Savio waterfall filter, 50W uv, good aeration, and 15 Koi 12inch to 20inch. At first I thoughts might have the Itch, so did scraping on 2 koi, didn't see anything, water parameters are descent, Ph of 6.8, ammonia of .25% and no nitrite. I started puting in Salt at .3% in divided dose over a period of 10 hours apart, notice koi still flashes and darting about. Any suggestion would be greatly helpful. Thanks

Was there any changes in the couple of days prior to you noticing the behavior?

Did you add new fish? etc....

Some questions:

How long have you had the fish?
Have you added any new fish in the last few weeks?
What is your maintenance routine?
Have you compared the test results in your pond with those of your tap or well water?
Why salt?
Any other filtration?

At this point it would seem you are overstocked for the size of your pond. Unless you are doing frequent water changes and maintaining heavy aeration trouble is bound to come your way in the form of a parasite infestation and ultimately bacterial infection as well.

Without much more information I'd suggest treating the fish and pond for parasites. But having added salt muddies the waters. Removing the salt via water changes will help but it takes several massive water changes to get there.

Once that is done I'd suggest using ProformC and Praziquantel together over a course of three treatments. But before I go further into that protocol I'd like to get to know more about your situation.

Thanks you all,

No behavior change on fish, still eating, started flashing about a week ago, seems to be more now.

Ph reading is done in the evening after work 6-7pm

Had fish for about 1 years now, no new fish added to pond.

routine maintance, did water change every week 20%

Why Salt? Salt is a good cheap treatment for a lot of parasite, assuming i have parasite, but not able to see on my microscope.

no other filtration, just the Savio with the springflow, measure ammonia level every week always 0-.25% never above. I know I have to much fish in pond.

Will do a couple of water change and tried the Proform C and see if the flashing and darting goes away. thank you all.

Might want to take a ph reading early a.m. Not knowing what your pond looks like and everything else (size of fish, etc.) , I personally would be uncomfortable with that low of a ph in the evening.

With proper filtration, there should be no detectable ammonia ... ever. Work on that and your problems may well resolve itself.

Do a 25% water change. Please don't use proform c for the mean time because you still have a high percentage of salt in your system. Might end up killing all your fish. Try fixing the ammonia first. I have a friend that did that a while back and he ended up killing all his pet.
