Aquitori,
These fish were spawned in late April and are only 2 to 4 inches. I am very careful about pushing the fish at this age and handle my sorting and ponds differently than most. I manage the ponds for uniform growth and health, and combine the first and second cullings into one. It saves me time, and I don't delegate sorting. Once past my second culling I allow the growth rates to increase. Oh yeah, I've seen a lot of fish. I just haven't always known what I was looking at. Still don't. That's why I'm here. I'm not an expert. I am learning, sharing, and just trying to sort out a lot of years of observation.
One point, I wouldn't make hard rules about koi. There aren't any except about water quality. That is what makes it great. It's an art, and you feel it.
