Hi..no it's not my condition(thank goodness). It's actually my job. I am a podiatrist who specializes in diabetic ulcers and wounds. Just love to treat ulcers and infections all day...then come home to do it on fish

....It can make for some very frustrating days.
I always wish that we had products available for koi ulcers like we do for people. We have products such as apligraf and regranex, which form a matrix over a wound that new skin can integrate itself onto. This speeds new skin growth and accelerates healing. Stem cell research will eventually be wonderful in this regard....just need something like it for koi!!!
JR is correct about betadine...it is cytotoxic. What we used to do before all the fun new wound products...we would mix betadine with sugar and make a slurry. We would pack this into wounds. Supposedly..the betadine was diluted...so, not as cytotoxic. The sugar acted as a drying agent to the osmolarity of the bacteria...so it helped the betadine kill it. I wonder how that mixture would work on a koi ulcer?!?!
