that just won Grand Champion 2 days ago.
Interesting facts: this koi is Marudo, over 8 years old, has won numerous Best Male show awards, including Oklahoma City first weekend in May 2007. He was 21 inches then, we thinned pond and did some other feeding changes, and now he is 23". (my personal message from hubby: "see Jan, I told you you had too many koi in there" --GEEZ)

Jan, I remember that fish well from the Arizona show you entered several years back now. In fact I use this picture in a lecture to show JUST how good a male fish can be as a show fish. Super skin and color and the pattern fits the male body to a tee. Nice animal. JR

JR, Thanks for remembering. Yes, we have taken this koi all over the country to shows. Scott's fish and we have been fortunate to have owned and cared for it. My education in quality has certainly been enhanced by the years with him.

Our only Grand Champion ever! The true satisfaction when you feel like you have taken excellent care of a koi. A week or 2 before the show, Scott and I spent the day bowling and looking at fish. I mentioned to him that the tsuya (Sp?), beni quality and confirmation was the best I had seen on 'him' in a very, very long while. I could only attribute it to the fact that I have had quite a bit of extra time lately since my job (in mortgages) has not been as busy lately (ya think?); I have been changing water very consistently, and spending much time on analyzing and limiting certain foods, etc. More enjoyment for this part of the hobby, rather than always being in a hurry to get it done.
