water quality tests, Russel?

Hi All, If you had only $ 200.00 What "brand name" of professional test kits or individual tests and where to buy where I can get the most bang for the buck? Would you recommend?? I do use Amquel +
PH
TA
Nitrite
DO
What else would you recommend.
( have one of the electronic salt and Ph meters but I am sure they will die soon and I don't want to ever be unprepared again.

All of my agony could have cheaply been avoided with a little for thought and a quality test kit.

while your sorting things out in your mind about water quality and tests kits keep in mind that no matter high high a quality test kit you purchase, the results will key into the freshness of the testing chemicals. Rather than pay lots of money for something that will eventual get old and outdated, why don't you look at something that annually can be replaced at a nominal fee,
yet the chemicals would always be fresh and therefore more dependable.

I'm not sure what you mean by "TA". The basic tests would be the ones you list, plus ammonia, hardness and alkalinity. After those, your imagination and curiosity are the only limits.

I am assuming this question came out of the other thread about ammonia and nitrite poisioning. The water quality I am talking about isn't just your ammonia, nitrite, pH levels and so on. I am talking about the overall quality of your water. Do you have good filtration, circulation and DO levels? Do you have alot of waste build up in your system that parasites and anaerobic bacteria can live on? You Koi will recover faster if there is nothing else attacking or bothering them.

I'll leave it to others to make recommendations. Before you get one, study up on what orp is all about. Until a person understands orp, the readings are rather useless.
