I thought the momotaro auction was over and it was on the 29th of september, see panintercorp web site? My mistake it was the Saki auction. How can we see or bid on koi?

thanks for the update. glad to know that it's working pretty well.

this design is almost like a tickle tower right? because there's no 'vent' like the trays that are on top of each other. is that a correct statement? is it filled with bacteria house from the bottom?

thanks again.

remember the fun we all had when the BH was introed

and the flap that was created because of the infa-red.....wonder if we're past that now. I saw some man made counter top material from Korea recently that used the same promotion on it's product

My bakki is going on it's 4th year and while it doesn't do the entire pond exclusively, I'm convinced it contributes....

dick, in your post, does it mean that with or without the flap it will work the same way like the new design that is just one big tray/container?

i have a few questions:
1. is it still advisable to employ a trickle tower now that winter is almost here? the pond temperature is still above 60 degrees.
2. at what temperature normally would the water clarify not because the pond/filter have matured but because the algae can no longer multiply/live?
3. how long does it normally take for a trickle tower to mature using lava rock as media?
4. i intend to convert to use the filter below originally intended as static K1. I will add another bucket/garbage bin (gray) on top fill it with lava rock. the 55 gallon drum (blue) will then act as the catch basin then flow to water falls. do you think that would work?

thanks in advance.

I get quite a bit of splatter with mine

So the extra liner flap seems to contain it from spreading to the walls and boards holding in the liner. yet the sides are open to the air so it does not
deny oxygen a chance to mix readily.....

If your tower either bakki or trickle is outside and open to the weather it will act as a chilling tower which is why I run mine inside in the winter.

Please don't use lava rock in a true trickle. It may be inexpensive to start but my experience with it is that it collects fines and bacteria waste that goes anaroebic and works against water quality. I believe in the bakki shower situation the flow over lava rock is so much stronger and harder that it tends to send the dietrious into the water column where hopefully it gets settled or contained and eliminated. Does your grey catch basin have a drain where you could eliminate what gets collected? If not and you decide to put one in make sure the return is not flat on the bottom but raised up a few inches to allow room for settlement. maybe you could run your new filter more like a bakki than trickle if your sure you want to use lava rock as media. No matter what you decide just be aware that you need to constantly check the media from time to time after several months to make sure it is not smelling foul or collecting anything.

It usually takes 6 weeks for most style filters to begin to kick in without special heroics. Algea in the water column ( not thread ) usually disappears with the temps in the 40's because the fish are not putting in any food for them to eat(fish waste) and the filter activity is also reduced.

thanks dick.

i don't intend to run any of the filters during winter as it gets too cold up here. winter can be as low as -22* F.

the drum has a drain and the bottom of gray bin is about 10-12 inches from the bottom of the drum. mine would probably be not a true trickle tower but also not a true bakki shower. but i'd say it would be more like a bakki shower for two reasons. first there will be two levels (two gray bins on top of each other that will act as the trays) and the flow is about 4000 gph. it's a bit like trickle tower only because they are round instead of rectangular. do you think that would work using lava rock?

i guess it's too late to see the effect for this year. this is definitely a spring modification.

More importantly, what are you going to do about the mild dew? Bringing koi inside always invites mill dew but the heath risks and unsanitary conditions beg the question? What DO we do about the mill dew?? JR

Hi Farne,

Here are the pictures that were sent out as of the other day. Momotaro will continue to post more later on. So far it's only the nisai Kohaku and Sanke that they have available pictures of.

Sorry, moved all pics to a different post.

Best regards,

Rob Barreras
