has something in common with mama cass

or was that a ham sandwich?

Thanks Rob for your feedback. I ended tapeing plastic in between my trays to eliminate the splashing. I didn't mind the moise actually ( what was that you said, couldn't hear you for the splashing )

Hi Lam,
Steve (birdman) Jonelli who does our DIY stuff for the magazine has built his own version with lava rock. It worked fine for a while but was actually too heavy for it's own good and is now on steve's back burner and redesign. He also had splash concerns so maybe this new design is the way to go.....I think they're perfect for an enclosed environment but when outside in the spring winter or fall they become instead of a bio filter, a gigantic cooling tower

Hi Chris, so sorry to hear about the loss of your nice showa to a hot dog or ham sandwich. I am sure there's got to be a koi heaven for koi and your showa is chomping on hot dogs or ham sandwiches right now.

I hope that Steve will hurry up and redesign his DIY Bakki tower because I am sold on getting either a Bakki tower or trickle tower to supplement my Matala and Japanese mat filters.

BTW, do any of you guys know of any place that might sell a smaller version of Momotaro's Bakki?

Keirin Koi sells a smaller version. You might also check out the AES catalog listing a German version. I have not seen it in operation, but the concept is the same.

Thank you Mike for the links to the smaller Bakki towers. Here are the links for those interested in taking a closer look at these:

Keirin Koi

FIAP Niagra Towers

BH and Bakki towers have been extensively debated in this forum and elsewhere. What amazes me is the multiple different ways that a tower can be built. Dang, more decisions to make...........

You want a very cheap solution to making a shower system? Go to you local asian market or whoever sells bean sprout and ask for the crates...Unlike a milk crate they have smaller holes on the sides to keep media in and they alreayd come predrilled on the bottom for a trickle effect....

Thanks for the info Aquitori. There are a couple of Asian markets in the Portland area that I will visit and inquire. In the meantime, have you used these crates before and, if so, then do they work?

Hmmm, maybe I can use this design to grow bean sprouts. After all, it's a good source of proteins.
