Becareful of boards where most members are newbies, novices, or others barely into koi keeping. Soon you will believe that bottom drains are optional, gravel is mandatory, and koi can't live without lilies and lotus.

Lurk all you want!!! Our lurking rates are very reasonable.
Don't laugh because I was one of those individuals who believed bottom drains were optional and gravel was mandatory for kois. LOL

Thanks!

Ghostfish

I think you must be confused, you haven't been banned at KP. Your registration shows activity yesterday. If you are having trouble logging in you are welcome to ask for assistance.

However, Koi-bito is an excellent site and I am sure you will find whatever you need here.

You realize GhostFish that you have already had an epiphany. You understand that keeping large riverine carp is something best done in a pond system designed for them.

You definitely should consider joining a koi club in your area. At AKCA - Associated Koi Clubs of America - Welcome To The you can find listings of clubs that are affilated with Association Koi Clubs of America.

Once in a club you can borrow books and tapes for your research. You may be able to borrow additonal books and magazines from other club members. You might want to check out the books, magazines, and videos in this list. I definitely suggest reading at least the first four of the books.

Reference Material On Nishikigoi And Nishikigoi Ponds - KoiShack

follow that classic advice....build a koi pond system once...much cheaper that rebuilding it many times later.

There are a bunch of koi forums out there. I think I have accounts on all of them although I mostly post here. Find one you are comfortable with and just lurk at the rest or just post on all of them

To JNorth

I joined this forum because I happened upon some of your posts. Thank you for the education. I apologize for piggybacking on this thread. I just can't seem to figure out how to post a new one...much like my confusion I had dealing with the algea bloom this spring. My pond is small and full of pond mutts that I am really getting attached to. It is so amazing to me that after a stressfull day I can get so much joy and relaxation out of feeding the little piggies. They are so happy to see you walk up to the edge of the pond with the food.

I have had my share of midnight guests. The raccoons have ripped apart my netting more times than I care to count. Now I am dealing with herons and probably a kingfisher or too. Gotta love Oregon!

Any advise on posting is very much welcomed. Thank you!

Lori

Hi Lori,

Glad you have liked my posts. To start a new thread/post just go to the General Koi Forum (where you found this thread) and on the left side of the screen just above the listing of threads is a button that says "New Thread". Just hit that

MCA: My friend belongs to a koi club and has lent me Koi Kichi book. Haven't had the chance to read it yet, but he states that it's a great book.

The 600 gallon tank is only temporary until I move to a new home and build a pond. I think the 600 gallon tank should last me 4-6 months.

Cindy, Carl: Thanks. I'm able to log into KP!

Lori: Please piggyback. KP, koi-bito (just found out about koishack.com) are great resources and I believe that members of these forums should know that. I'm mean, I'm currently feeding my kois Azoo that contains beta glucan...Who would know about beta glucan but these members? Just amazing information in these forums.

Smile Something new

Wow Ghost Fish, I had never heard of Koi-Bito. That sounds like something to invest in. I just incorporated montmorillonite clay into the diet. These mutts eat better than I do!

JNorth, I am just not seeing that start a new thread button. Maybe I haven't earned enough points yet to have a new post button I will work on that.

Cheers!

Lori

Lori,

the button looks like this...... It is located in replacement of the reply thread you are using on this topic.

Like Jnorth says just go to the general koi forum and look in roughly the same location as the reply button and it will be there.
