Mike is correct on this subject and Kevan is showing limited vision on the subject, in my opinion. The trait is a genetically linked trait. And like red in the pecs of great kohaku and red runnning onto the eye of great kohaku, certain 'rules' loose all perspective and are easily over looked in world class specimens. Matsunosuke gin comes with silk skin. The silk skin also carries more silver white reflecting cells within that skin. That in turn, improves sumi and beni ( making them three dimensional). Add the thickness of dermis to increase levels and depths of sumi and beni coats and you have a superior fish genetics. To focus in on strips of ginrin as a genetic coupling as ruining the whole effect, is to totally miss the big picture. - JR

JR and others.
When you see stray or lined weak gin from other breeders is the same silk white better? I have several Ogata Kohukus that have that. They have good white but I'm not sure if it's related to the blood line or...

what some appear to have missed is that i actually have a GREAT respect for toshio sakai, and for his great achievements and i rate him in a small class of true masters, i place him just behind SFF and Dainichi in a broader sense.

however i will not pull punches on the views i have that i believe to be true for fear of upsetting some and i antisipated the majority of the replies that have followed when i wrote on the subject, so unfortunately i am not reading anything significantly interesting as follow ups im afraid!

at the end of the day
your views may differ

i am very comfortable and happy with mine!

if you want to destroy a great thread then just keep posting comments like yours!

i was happy to expand on others replies and to discuss other implications of the subject being discussed that i had yet to detail, but hey i dont think ill bother as i dont want to ruin this great thread, when we could recieve such nuggetts of wisdom from yourself, eh!

kevan.
Kevan,

You have misunderstood what I was saying, I meant that the thread was good even with your comments, you are entitled to them. All the comments that you got from others putting you down was not helping the discussion. I was not the one putting you down. I am sorry that you saw it that way.

actually this hobby is about the love of nishikigoi and their beauty,
or perhaps you have lost sight of that?
everything else can be viewed as secondary, learning and discusing is fun, but spouting about who you know and what you know, while demoting all others to shimis sounds rather arogant actually!

Kevan, hows' about addressing the subject at hand. The skin that comes along with the Niigata gin strip in that line. And the fact that everyone who breeds sanke use that line at some point- both for size and for that skin type? I'd specifically like you to address the elements of luster cells and clear reflecting cells in that line and the spread of those cells into the fukurin of said line. JR
