I did confirm with Devin that the female oyagoi came from customers; "I believe Marudo restocked most of his female oyagoi by buying back fish that he bred and sold to customers in Japan(Devin)".

Genetics reach further back than mom and dad, and having the right match come together at the right time is what tips the scale. That's one of the reasons I enjoyed one of the old threads tracing back the lineage of some good lines of Koi 3 and 4 generations.
These guys are pro's, and they've paired enough Koi to have a better feel for the potential of new Oyagoi than I can imagine, much less second guess. No doubt the ones they had "flagged" for recall as replacement broodstock had the elements they wanted to carry forward, but did not need to use at the time they were sold. Now they have the need and the means to fill it, so no doubt they will have a better year than many might think possible.

Marudo was in the PHilippines a couple of months ago with Omosako, Danichi, Isa, Kentaro for a wedding. I heard that they were godparetns to Mike Hernandez sons wedding.
