Why Don? Should she be longer?

I'm wondering the same thing. How long should a koi be at 2 1/2 years? Unless it's supposed to be a jumbo, isn't 9 inches or slightly under okay? Based on what's being said, how long can we expect this fish to be at, say, 5 years old?

I meant to say 9 inches or slightly under per year on her growth.

I am looking at other fish from other dealers. I am really on the fence with this fish. I like the opinions...but I am rarely this indecisive!!!

sHE SHOULD BE AT LEAST 21 TO 22 INCHES. TOO SMALL FOR HER AGE.

I've got a lot of stubby fish...that's why I didn't know! For 7 years I've had a small pond, and for a while, too many fish. Plus I couldn't feed alot because my filter couldn't take it. As of this summer the pond is alot bigger, better filtration and fewer fish. Maybe I will get to grow a baby out to 22 inches in 2 years now. Too late for my current stubbies, though.

Sorry I'm just getting to this post.

Gin rin tend to be smaller fish than normal scale wagoi. This fish is smallish when compared to normal wagoi but not stunted for a ginrin.
This is also the type of fish you should be buying after having served a serious time with small male fish. You see that this fish has a body unlike what you have gotten used to and therefore will teach you something you have not been exposed to before.
The beni is weak looking which is typical with ginrin. That is not necessarily a bad thing for ginrin as the beni gets muted by the ginrin, including kiwa/sashi.
The fish has an excellent shape and, as mentioned, is short for kohaku of that age but normal for ginrin. It is likely fine in the beni area and the shiro is soft and refined which is typical from that breeder. But the ginrin itself is only fair. Still it is a good fish and better quality than the kujacku and such you have been buying.

$300? It seem high to me and $200- 250 seems more reasonable. But koi prices have gotten ridiculous in recent years so I guess it's market theses days ? JR

Thanks JR...After discussing price, we got down to $325 shipped. So, really $250 for the koi. A lot of those fish I list and ask about here..I do not keep. They are usually sold. I only keep the ones that get a favorable review...or I am studying. This season, my big research has been on kawaragoi. I have 4 small kumonryu, 1 kikokuryu, 2 matsubawake, 1 ginga, 1 hageshiro, 1 beni kumonryu. Most are from blackwater creek. I will grow them out until next season and see how they develop. I will then sell the ones I don't want. I have moved to a new home, have a new pond and very soft water. I am trying to see how the sumi will develop with this new system. Every year BWC seems to concentrate on a different variety more heavily. This year..kawaragoi. Last year was asagi, year before was everything yellow. I am just now understanding the development from my ki utsuri 2 years ago. It makes it interesting...but don't want you to think I have a pond full of mutts.

It is definately looked stubby for me. Shorter head. It will not grow very big. Soory, I always go for confirmation, but this GR does have it. If you have no other choice, don't go for it too.
