Not stubby Dan, that is the body type. Not at least in the genetic deformity sense of the term. You can see the hump developing in the shoulder. It is a doitsu body type ( food fish). Ironically, the doitsu was used early on in koi breeding for vigor, size and rapid growth. Instead, it made koi 'taller' and often humped and thick looking. You will often see an old timer, run the water out of a bowl so that the backs of the koi are exposed. He is looking at the height of each koi to get a sense of the body shape in the other dimension. It will also show the most common body deformity of bent spine in the dorsal/ventral dimension. - JR
