Not an expert, but...

It's very pretty. Others who know know more will have to weigh in on it's worth. But $300 seems a good price for a fish that looks that good at that age and size.

Hello,
$300 is a good deal provided that you can keep the quality in the next 2 years by then she will be ok. I didn't have that kind of luck with Ogata kohaku except from the girls I got from JO Co. It is a regular thing for Ogata koi to exceed everyone's expectation while their 2 years old. Once the water quality goes down they will be the first one to go. Again genetics comes into consideration. That's just my observation........

she looks too short in body length to reccomend

I think the koi has an attractive pattern. But remember with a gin rin, it all about the GR. And we can't tell that from a photo. Physically you have to look at the koi and make sure there are no soft spots or faded area in the GR as it passes thru the two colors thru-out it's length. It must be clear and uniform.

That said I want to commend you for your diligence in the search for a good kohaku. There's value in looking and getting other's opinions. Unless your really cracy about GR, you might be better to settle for a kohaku without it.

I think the fact she is female with an attractive pattern and nice hump influenced the breeder to keep her another season to see if she would lengthen. Seeing she's not gonna, it has come on the market.

put that fish in a small pond and crowd her and you'll have a shape your favorite NFL team could throw for a touchdown.

There does not seem to be much depth in the sashi. It is not very even either. I do not think it is strong beni.

The fact that she is a sandan and 18" long and only going for $300 raises a red flag for me. I am used to seeing koi this age and size going for at least $800. I do have four potential concerns:

1. Length is a little short. Dick is right, she does look stubby. As to whether she will lengthen I do not know.

2. With GR it's hard to know the quality without physically looking at the koi.

3. There is a white pocket on the left side of the last hi step. I don't know if this is a huge concern or not. All as I know is from my little experience, I have had koi with white pockets like this that just gets bigger with time.

4. Online. I have never bought a koi online and I maybe never will. I am at a stage in the hobby where I want quality koi in my collection. It's just not fun giving my koi away because they don't pan out.

With all this said, it really depends on you. If you want a nice-looking koi and you have the space then this might be a good purchase. Good luck with your decision.

No. Can't judge gin rin and hi adequately from photo, but 18" @ 2 1/2 years is a total turn off. Sorry.
