I would not cull this koi.
But I would also like to see other pictures of it .
And some better ones of it in sunlight.
Thanks for posting it.

Hi Patrick, could you please tell us why you would not cull it? You seem to be standing alone.

Without seeing other pictures of this showa the sumi is not finished.
And (to me) it's hard to judge it from a dark picture.

I am not an expert but for Ogata fish I think the sumi is done consider it was purchased as a Nisai in 2005.

there are three things we all look for in a fish - conformation, pattern, quality. imo, this fish got none.

More Showa?

Hi Mike,

I think Patrick should be able to get a better view of the first Showa from the second picture. It is nice and bright. It looks like she has eggs.

You added three other Showas. Are they all Ogata as well? They look like they have gone downhill as well. Keep culling, you will get there.

Hi Russ,
First koi is from Marudo. Second and third koi is from Ogata. Last is from Sekiguchi. Please keep it coming.

The best of the best of these group of Showas is the Marudo. The sumi and beni are at the same level of finish for future.
