Well, I've held off as long as I can. First, love what you've done growing these, Dick. They have the fullness I'd expect from a mudpond. Your feeding regimen shows. Second, how could you take on tosai like this?... It's going to be years to figure out what you have!
Of the two, I prefer the gin rin. I just like the overall look. JR makes excellent points (as usual). If it was a Ginrin Kohaku, that would be all to be said. As a Ginrin Goshiki, I see it as a unique koi on which the motoaka can add a dimension, as it would in an Ochiba. What I really find interesting, however, is that I cannot recall seeing a Ginrin Goshiki of this sort before. Mostly I see gray-bodied ones. The ginrin makes the base look like crumpled aluminum... but the ginrin is typicallu uneven. (A very striking type when you first see it, but messy upon inspection.) I don't know what to expect with this fish. Will the sumi rise to create an overall blue-effect under the ginrin? Or, will it be just areas of deeper color within the white? Will it eventually have a reticulated gray & black scale, and if so how does the ginrin affect the look? Will the red be strong enough to stay free of gray/black intrusions? If so, the motoaka will be like wings and the overall appearance will not be quite like Goshiki at all. Just might become a koi Dr. Kuroki would have given a fancy new name.
