Feeding tosai Daphia....

I bought some small Showas last week and I thought I would try a Daphia diet on them for a couple of months plus pellets...so we will see...anybody else try feeding this to their tosai?

I usually feed gingo for the first month

then switch over to the high protein pellets. No fair feeding blood worms!

You mean frozen? Live daphnia are too precious to feed tosai. If feeding frozen food, I would go with the bloodworms. About the same price as frozen daphnia, better nutrition, less waste.

Too small for tosai. The fat content is great but lots of other more size appropriate foods are available. Try blackworms. There's a major distributor out your way that will ship them once a week to you overnight. You buy them by the pound!
Every morning I go out and 'harvest' live food from some set ups I have on the property ( large wooded area). Lots of mosquito larva and daphnia. Great for my tropicals ( I can get a sailfin mollie up to an inch in 3-4 weeks) but not even practical for my goldfish. The real benefit of daphina is that each one is protein and fat but it is also filled with algae. Talk about a balanced diet! But after the koi si out of the Larval stage and is a full blown fry, the daphnia is probably only practical for another 30-60 days at best? JR
