Hello Luke and Welcome to 'Bito.

Vegie filters are few and far between on this board. Even done 'properly' (and I use that term loosely), the upkeep's a bear.

Furthermore, there are too many ways for them to do more harm than good.

I agree with Don. I made the mistake of building a bog filter and am paying for it now.....too much maintainance, not big enough to be an effective filter, makes water brown, etc.......I am in the process of getting rid of it. If you want a watergarden, just make it separate from your main pond. Hope this helps and good luck with your pond.

I don't think vegetables put out that much ammonia so why would they need a filter?? JR

Superluke: Do a forum search. You'll find a thread or two on the subject on this board.

The veggie idea is a carry over from the early days of koi keeping in the west. We now know that are better ponds that water gardens and better filters than gravel and veggies.

Take the plunge...go koi pond system. Your koi will be glad you did.
