Your winter care plan sounds very good. How many are you wintering? With 2500 gallons and a Nexus, you can easily keep a bunch of 4-inchers. But, I'm thinking that if the population is limited to about 25 of the best, you could have them at 10"-12" by May. DickB has experience in wintering tosai indoors. Perhaps he can jump in. I would probably try using a very high protein pellet as a significant part of the diet; and while they are small, I'd get a few portions of live brine shrimp from the local aquarium shop once per week. I believe the living flesh and amino acids add tremendously to the growth and development of any fish, but especially young ones, even when it is a relatively small percentage of total in-take. By the time they are 6" long, small earthworms (or chopped larger ones) from a bait shop are a wonderful food for a meal or two each week. (It may take a while for them to figure out the worms are food, but they will.) ...Makes me wish I had some little ones to raise.
