I'd start with dimilin, anchor worms are pretty common and in the meantime, I'd hit those spots with iodine or peroxide on a swab.

While its on my mind, I did my kha presentation in phoenix on hyperplasia (bumps on koi)

This pic is fish gills with larvae from mollusk in the river. They plant the larvae in the gills and then hatch and the damage is done, Thought it was a neat picture, it came from a vet that helped with my presentation.

These don't scrape off.

Yikes! That picture gives me the creepy crawlies! And you can tell the gill isnt healthy - too light colored over all and then white edges. Yuck! Two of the fish are not doing well - but still alive, and at least they dont have these nasties!

All the fish were pulled a couple of days ago. No signs of the worms - although confirmed that they were there - egg sacs coming through the filter. Treated with koi doc - a dark green topical.

koi doc

Cindy,
Koi doc is a topical wound dressing. Apparently, not very available. But I saw it used, and seems to be pretty easy. Whether really effective or not remains to be seen. I've been focusing on the fish that are really bad. The ones that the koi doc might have been enough for have been left alone lately.

You have had so many suggestions that I am almost afraid to say anything.....

Anchor worms usually attach to a scaled area instead of the fins. Some of the photos look like Argulus (fish lice) sores and the infection that typically follows an Argulus bite. The anchor worm treatment will also kill Argulus, but you still have to deal with the infection.

Bacterial infections that follow a parasite bite will often heal more rapidly and with less intervention than infections that occur spontaneously. Perhaps this is because a spontaneous infection signals a weak immune system and/or poor water quality.

Havent unpacked my koi books. Will try and post a pic later.
Bumps are good sized - probably about 3mm across.

Thanks!

Hello Kim,

i was wondering whatever happened to this koi. Were you able to treat it back to health?

2 months ago, I spotted something similar when I visited my friend's pond. The 67 cm showa looked thin, weak, swam with clamp fins and flashed alot. I thought it was white spots that have ruptured. A month later the fish died.

Regards

Larry
