If they are at the top and it looks like they are trying to get oxygen then, perhaps their gills were damaged from the filter pad incident or maybe there is not enough oxygen in the water and they are suffocating. Having your filter water splash into the pond is NOT enough to give them adequate oxygen. You need an air pump.

What is the water temp? Higher temps hold less O2. The picture of dead fish show the kill was pretty indescriminant. Large & small died, which is a little unusual. More typical is the biggest die first. That's why I initially thought of ammonia/nitrite.

everything is getting back to normal the filter is set up so when the water from the pond goes in from the pump air is introduced from another pipe so when i look in the filter i see air from the bottom where water rise from so i thought it was airating the pond ill go out and buy a air pump then im left with 4 now cause my biggest died this morning
